Pasture Grown Poultry

Homestead Heritage poultry is free to run on lush, green, grass in fresh air and sunshine. We provide shelter, shade and protection from predators, while still allowing them access to a fresh green "salad bar" each day. We move the pens to clean fresh grass daily. Pastured Poultry Facts

►Pastured poultry is good for you!

Poultry raised on grass will take as much as 30% of their daily food intake from grass, bugs, etc.  This results in much higher amounts of omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamins A and E, folic acid, and carotenoids than that of their grain fed counter parts.  They are also much leaner.

  • "Organic" poultry is often raised in confinement and fed strictly grain. (Organic grain, of course)

  • "Free Range" probably means "not caged", but probably still a smelly confinement house.

  • "All Natural" simply means no hormones, antibiotics, etc.  It implies nothing about the health of the bird or it's living conditions.

  • Access to the "great outdoors" may mean a narrow dirt yard.

None of these have any of the health benefits of pastured poultry.

Pastured eggs have:

10% less fat

34% less cholesterol

40% more Vitamin A

400% more Omega 3's

►Pasture is good for animals too!

Our chickens are out in the fresh air and sunshine as soon as they are old enough to leave the brooder, and they stay there until processing.  They get a fresh green salad bar every day. Instead of living on a filthy mat of fecal litter, breathing fecal dust and absorbing filth right through their skin, our birds run on clean green grass, breathe fresh air and absorb sunshine.  This results in happy, healthy birds.  No wonder they don't need hormones and antibiotics!

►Pastured Poultry is good for the grass!

The pens are moved daily, which results in even distribution of manure over the field. (Good fertilizer)  The feathers, guts, and all that nasty stuff is composted and therefore turned into nutrient rich fertilizer, which we return to the grass and use on our garden.

We, Homestead Heritage, LLC, promise our chickens are free of GMO's, antibiotics, and growth hormones.  Also, we never feed "fillers" such as blood or feather meal.  (A common practice in conventional chicken farming.)  Our chickens are fed non-GMO grains (corn, whole roasted soybeans and a small amount of oats) supplied by local farmers.
